From now on, it's necessary to mention the country of origin permanently on the frame. The country of origin is the one where the raw material underwent a transformation, that is when the material underwent several operations modifying its usage (mark the product with the name of the country not constituting a transformation). The marking "Made in USA" is valid only if the product is "completely" or "almost completely" made in USA.

The Council Regulation n494/2011 (20th of May 2011) modifies the Regulation (CE) n1907/2006 on the registration, the evaluation and the authorization of chemical substances (REACH) by adding regulations (Annex XVII) on the uses of Cadmium (JOUE L134/2, 21st of May, 2011). A correction on the application dates of these prohibitions has been published (JOUE L136/105, 24th of May, 2011).

A new version of draft international standards ISO 12311 and ISO 12321-1 relating to frames for general-purpose sunglasses will eventually replace standards EN 1836, AS/NZS 1067 and ANSI Z80.3: this is the last step before the final draft for the publication of the standards.

Since May 2011, the nickel standard for the frames of spectacles and sunglasses is no longer EN 1811 but EN 16128 (2011). This standard takes account of the operating mode of the latest version of EN 1811, which means there is no change as regards the products tested or to be tested.
